Really? I took the cue from the post count and not page count. I was under the impression that graphic-heavy threads are closed after about 2000 posts.
Haha, I don't care, but it would have been nice to keep it going since I did the last 2 and put some work in tracking down old threads and adding up posts etc etc. Whatever.
Got myself the biggest m*&*#&(*$& snow broom I can find, since it snows like every other day this year

Just FYI.
The "private" beta that's being circulated is a very old beta in the development stage. VMware has big plans, and is working closely with Apple to have a true Mac look and feel.
Things VMware Final version will do:
Be 100% Free
Support Adjusting how many processors you use.
64bit support and optimization
Drag and drop into the VM window (just try dragging a file off your desktop into the VM now)
***And full support to use your bootcamp volume. So you don't have to have two disks anymore or one for Virtual Machine, and another for bootcamp with full video accelerations. You can just run your bootcamp volume right inside of VMware for those times when you don't want to reboot, and just need to do work. That way you only have one copy of windows on your machine! No VM needed!
**Support for "Virtual Appliances" which VMware has a bunch of on their site. Thousands of companies make ready-made Virtual Machines, that you can download and run in VMware, such as a lamp server, special build of RedHat, or a Ubuntu for graphics, or a mail server, or anything you can imagine, there are over 100,000 Virtual Appliances available on the VMware site, and you can create your own "Virtual Appliance" and share it with your friends!
I don't know about the free part though. If its just a player (like the current Beta), I can see that being free. But if they add all those extra features I don't see it being free at all. Hmm, the same Gene Munster who:
-- predicted 4.3M iPads sold in 2010 (he actually lowered his estimate and ~15M were sold).
-- predicted "lines will be small" for iPad2 (by his own later admission, they were longer than for the original iPad).
-- predicted Apple would sell half a million iPhone 3GS during launch weekend (they sold double that).
-- predicted Apple would not launch a new iPhone at the 2009 WWDC (they did).
-- predicted in 2005 "Apple is prepping Macs to serve as a hub for digital media for consumers by incorporating Tivo-like DVR capabilities"
-- Has missed numerous financial estimates by large margins.
To be fair, Munster is better than most "professional" analysts, he does a bit more research and has a decent track record on certain details. But I'm just saying, don't put much "stock" into this.

The ITC staff just ruled against them, they lost the famous case against MS, they ended up paying Apple Corps, etc.

The 3G iPod did not have physical feedback, and they worked.
Although it still isn't perfect - if you listen to music in the dark (I often listen to music in bed), it's difficult to find the buttons without pressing the wrong one. The 1G iPod was better in this regard.

I think there's some upper limit that apple may hit, I just don't see why it would be as low as 10%.
Generic businesses will likely stay with windows for quite a while, regardless of what apple does. But I don't see any reason many creative businesses, schools and home users couldn't switch to macs.

Finally Apple are back from those awful tanking sales G4 years, though will they ever break through that 5% glass ceiling?
I think so -- and soon. Look at the sales of the MacBooks, and they came very late in the quarter! So now we have a full quarter of MacBook sales, PLUS Mac Pros. Not to mention possible iMac and MacBook Pro updates to Core 2 Duo this quarter.
I say we will hit 5% next quarter. Apple is well on its way to being in the Top 3 as far as US marketshare! :)

From what I see most iPhone owners protect their investment with a case. I.E. you don't see what pretty color you phone is. (the reason i don't care about how my phone looks)

Maybe this is already being done (if so, I'm not aware), but it would be very nice if PREDICTIONS for iPhone and iPad were tracked. I'd love to see a chart that shows all the predictions, including the dates they were made, what the prediction was, in terms of speculated release dates, and finally, the accuracy of the prediction.
We get ambiguous statements in the MacRumors reports, along the lines of "this analyst/reporter has demonstrated viable sources in the past;" however I don't think there's any hard reporting on how accurate past predictions have been. All we have to do is just think about the iPad2 predictions that were being made as late as January to comprehend how wrong they are ... and that was on the practical eve of release.
